What an AI SDR can and cannot do
It is very good at the part of the job nobody wants and genuinely bad at the part everyone assumes it will handle. Knowing which is which is most of the decision.

The pitch is usually a robot that sells. That is not what you are buying, and expecting it is how these projects end up shelved after a month.
01What it is genuinely good at
Coverage. It answers on the first ring at eleven at night, on a Saturday, on the day half the team is at a conference. It never gets bored on the fortieth identical call and it never decides a lead looks unpromising before asking.
- Answering every inbound, at any hour, in the same tone every time
- Asking the qualifying questions in the order they were agreed
- Booking straight into a real calendar with a real confirmation
- Writing the call into the record as a summary a person can act on
None of that is glamorous. All of it is the reason a business loses leads it already paid for.

- 01Agent answersfirst ring
- 02Qualifiesfour questions
- 03Threshold metescalate
- 04Person picks upwith the context
Carried across
Name, company, the four answers, and why it escalated.
02What it is bad at
Anything requiring judgement about a person. It cannot read that someone is annoyed but interested. It cannot decide that a prospect is worth an exception to your pricing. It cannot hear the pause before an objection and change tack.
The question is never whether it sounds human. It is whether it knows the moment it should stop being the one talking.
03The escalation is the whole design
Most of the work in a voice build is not the script. It is defining precisely when the agent hands over, what it says while handing over, and what the person receives at the moment they pick up.
The test we use
A caller who asks for a human should get one without repeating a single thing they have already said. If the person picking up has to start the conversation over, the build has failed regardless of how good the transcript reads.
04If it cannot write, do not buy it
An agent that holds a good conversation and leaves nothing in the CRM has moved the work rather than removed it. Someone now listens to recordings and types. That is a worse job than the one you were trying to automate.
The integration is the product. The voice is the part people demo.
What it comes down to
- It is a coverage tool before it is a conversation tool
- The handoff to a person is the design problem, not the voice
- If it cannot write to the CRM, it is a toy
